Guytano Parks pianist

GUYTANO PARKS, a native Clevelander, is well known to audiences as an extremely versatile pianist with a diverse repertoire of Classical Music, Showtunes & Movie Music, Popular Standards from all eras, Jazz, Ragtime and Novelty Pieces. He has performed in venues ranging from the concert stage (as soloist, in chamber music and as accompanist) to cafe society (benefits, openings, special events, hotels, restaurants, country clubs, weddings, parties and theatrical productions. Currently he entertains at retirement communities, nursing homes, special care facilities and for seniors events and organizations throughout Northeast Ohio.
He studied piano with Artist-in-Residence Eunice Podis in the Conservatory at The Cleveland Institute of Music (1979-1985) as the recipient of scholarships from The Fortnightly Musical Club and The Cecilian Musical Club and was awarded a CIM Accompanying Fellowship. He performed in piano master classes with Grant Johanessen and Paul Schenly in addition to chamber music master classes with violinists Josef Gingold, Peter Salaff and Bernard Goldschmidt, pianist Eunice Podis and French hornist Philip Meyers. Earlier he won the highest medal in The Ohio Music Education Association Competition (annually from 1973 to 1977) while studying piano with Cynthia Lawing, Janis Zemzars and Olga Radosavljevich in the Preparatory Department at CIM.
Guytano Parks recently performed piano recitals in memory of his piano teacher Eunice Podis (who passed away on April 2, 2008) at The Montefiore Home in Beachwood, Harborside in Westlake, The Weils of Bainbridge and The Liberty at Heather Hill in Chardon. He has performed recitals at The Cleveland Institute of Music, Mayfield Country Club (CIM's Ernest Bloch Society concert), Harkness Chapel at Case Western Reserve University, The Cleveland Museum of Art, Trinity Cathedral, Plymouth Church of Shaker Hts., Euclid Avenue Congregational Church, Judson Manor, The Intown Club, The Jewish Community Center, The Western Reserve Historical Society, Lakewood Public Library, Fairmount Fine Arts Center, Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, The Andrews School, The Broadway School of Music, Ohio Dominican College, Fairmount Temple and for numerous clubs and organizations. In 1985 he performed 21 sold-out concerts with Liberace at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. "The spectacular Easter Extravaganza was the most elaborate production ever to be mounted on the New York stage and drew a record-breaking attendance and box office success," reported The New York Times. As Company Pianist for The Cleveland San Jose Ballet (1995-96 season) he appeared as soloist in 19 performances of Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto in G minor (choreographed as Quicksilver) in The State Theater at Playhouse Square Center. While living in Chicago (1998-2003) he performed over 200 concerts throughout the city and its suburbs. Notable appearances include recitals on the Sounds of Our City concert series at The Harold Washington Library Center and the Sulzer Classical Sundays concert series at the Conrad Sulzer Regional Library in addition to concerts at The Breakers (Edgewater Beach, Golf Mill and Olympia Fields), Beacon Hill (Lombard), Westminster Place (Evanston), Huss Gallery (Evanston), St. Paul's Chapel (Arlington Hts.), The Selfhelp Home (Chicago), Montgomery Place (Hyde Park) and Lake Forest Place (LF). guytanoparksinchicago
Guytano Parks has performed extended engagements at Classics Restaurant in The Omni International Hotel at The Cleveland Clinic (solo at lunch; with violins at dinner), Oakwood Club, Club Isabella, The Leader Building, Delphine's at The Cleveland Hilton South, Sebastian's West, The Fairmount Grille, Mantel's at The Clarion Hotel Willoughby, Kennedy's at Playhouse Square Center, The Avenue at Tower City Center, Pete and Charlie's at Stouffer's Somerset Inn, Zanzibar Polo Club, Hyde Park Chop House, Hyde Park Grille, The Theatrical, The Cleveland Play House Club, La Place, Theresa's in Little Italy, Harlow's Restaurant, Landerhaven, The Union Club, Luciano's Ristorante, Velvet Tango Room, Kirtland Country Club, Shaker Hts. Country Club (and at just about every other country club in the Cleveland/Akron area), for numerous clubs and organizations and at private cocktail/dinner parties, weddings, openings, benefits and special events throughout Cleveland and its suburbs. He spent Christmas and New Year's '06-'07 in NY performing at Nyack Manor-Valley Cottage, Woodlands at Ardsley-Ardsley, The Danish Home-Croton on Hudson, NYC Veteran's Home-Montrose, Rosary Hill-Hawthorne, Andrus on Hudson-Hastings on Hudson, Bethel Center-Ossining, Atria on Hudson-Ossining, Bethel Center- Croton on Hudson and in October 2005 at The Danish Home, Bethel Center and The Skyview Center in Croton on Hudson.
*CURRENTLY he performs entertaining programs (and background music during Brunches, Luncheons, Dinners and Parties) at RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES, NURSING HOMES and SPECIAL-CARE FACILITIES throughout Cleveland and its suburbs and the Akron/Canton, Ashland, Oberlin, Medina and Youngstown/ Warren areas. Programs include selections from his diverse repertoire of Classical Favorites, Showtunes & Movie Music, Popular Standards from all eras (20's, 30's & 40's, Big-Band & Swing, Contemporary), Jazz, Ragtime and Novelty Pieces. Also available: VIOLIN & PIANO DUO (with violinist Mary Beth Ions). The DUO has appeared most recently at Judson Park in University Circle, on the Sunday with the Friends series at Lakewood Public Library, The Weils of Bainbridge (2), RH Meyers Apartments, The Eliza Jennings Home and Bradley Bay Center.
